Beauty Industry Careers- Fun, Exciting, Rewarding!
Beauty Industry Careers- It’s Best to Get it Right the First Time 😉
Why do we hear about people having more than one career these days? I have a theory… it might be a little out there. I’d like to start with a caveat: This is my professional opinion, based on my observations, my knowledge of human behavior, and my understanding of social psychology. I believe the reason we go through multiple career changes these days is due to the complexity of our lives and a new abundance of career options. Allow me to elaborate…
We are living in some pretty complicated times. We’re living in an ever-changing world where we are bombarded with information and situations. Our life experiences have become more complex- we face new challenges and have the freedom to make our own decisions. For example, as a Canadian woman, I have had copious amounts of opportunities for independence. My mother on the other hand, due to cultural and generational factors, has lived a different-nonetheless-happy life.
Today, we are free to decide on a career, free to love our jobs, and free to build the career of our dreams. Unfortunately, we also have many new distractions such as social media and traveling technology (the cellphones, iPads and tablets that we ignore our loved ones with when they’re trying to spend time with us ☺). In addition, we have too many choices. It’s easy to decide between 2 or 3 options. But when our options are almost unlimited, our brains are over stimulated and have to process too much information to focus on one thing!
This is why career exploring should be done alongside an expert. We are able to ask the right questions to help you map out your future based on your past and present life experience. For example, when we meet with clients considering a career in the beauty industry, we talk more than just work. We believe choosing a career is dependent amongst many factors, for example, interests, abilities
, work values
, personal values
, and future life plans
If your work values are not parallel to your personal values, it is only a matter of time before you decide no amount of money is worth your time there. Because of this, we like to ask questions with different options for you to choose from. For example, we may ask you what is most important to you in a career, and give you the following options to choose from: high achievement, independence, creativity, or good salary.
Sometimes these types of questions do not work because as human beings, we subconsciously answer what we wish we preferred and not what we actually prefer! But don’t you worry, at ESG, we are students of human psychology and our methods were developed to work around this!
