2019 ESTHETICS TRAINING COURSES SUMMER SCHEDULE

*NOTE- Monday classes are taught on Tuesdays during the summer schedule

EXECUTIVE SPA GROUP can help you access grants to pay for your esthetics training courses.

GRANT ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

I AM CURRENTLY WORKING.

If you are currently working, you should have a conversation with your employer regarding your future career goals and how they will benefit the workplace.

Your employer can apply for a grant to cover 2/3 of all training costs. You can only register for your desired training until your grant application has been approved. It usually takes about a month for the application to be approved, so don’t waste time, apply now!

If you are a new employee and have been there for less than 30 days, your employer is eligible for 100% of training costs in grant funding.

We can help with your grant application process.

Have your employer call or email us. We can make a trip to your workplace to help you sort out the process.

Can I pay for the training myself?

Yes. As the trainee, you can fund your own training costs, but your employer must apply on your behalf. Keep in mind that you will have to pay all training costs up front. Your employer will be reimbursed and will have to provide documentation demonstrating they in turn reimbursed you.

However, these types of grants are intended for your employer to invest in your development, therefore, it is expected that they will invest 1/3 of the costs, even if you are the one who paid for it up front.

When can I expect reimbursement?

You have 30 days after you complete your training to submit proof of completion in order to receive your reimbursement. On average, reimbursement takes 4-6 weeks post submission, so submit asap!

I AM NOT WORKING ATM.

If you are not working at the moment and have been unemployed for 30 consecutive days or more, you have the option to find an employer who will sponsor your training. When an employer hires a NEW employee, 100% of the training costs can be funded.

This option works especially well for experienced estheticians who require an additional skill to work at a certain spa.

If you are new to the beauty industry, we recommend applying for Receptionist or Assistant positions and working out a training plan with your new employer.

If you are having difficulty finding a sponsoring employer, you have other options, call or email us for more information.

Lash Extensions are here to stay!

Lash extensions certification

What is one of the hottest trends keeping people looking like doe eyed dolls 24/7?

Let’s take a closer look into what’s turned into one of the hottest trends for your peepers since strip lashes came along.  We’ll call this Lash 101 since you will be schooled in everything you need to know about these wispy beauties and quite possibly hitting the search bar for a lash technician near you.

What Exactly Are Lash Extensions?

Lash extensions are an enhancement to your own natural lashes.  A false lash is applied to each individual lash with adhesive.  This is semi-permanent, and the lash extensions will fall out on their own or with the natural shedding process of your own lashes.  These extensions are made from different materials including mink, silk, sable, fox, faux mink and faux fox or something synthetic.

Are All Lash Extensions The Same?

J curl, C curl, Classic, 9-15mm, Classic, Hybrid, Volume…these are all different terms for different types of lashes so the answer is NO, not all lash extensions are the same and in fact can be customized for each client depending on the desired look.
  • 9-15 mm- This refers to the length of the extensions. Depending on the desired look the length of extension is entirely customizable.  Those with shorter natural lashes will usually have to stick with a shorter length while those with longer natural lashes can opt for a longer extension.  The length also depends on if you want a more natural or dramatic look.
  • There are different “curls” available as well you can choose for your extensions, these include: J curl, which is more of a natural look, C curl which give a bright eyed look and blend well with other curls, B curl which falls between your C and J curl and works best in the inner and outer corners of the eyes, D curl which is the drama and creating the illusion of a bigger eye, L curl which is great for straight lashes or clients with hooded eyelids and last but not least the U curl which is the most dramatic and curliest look.
  • Classic, Hybrid and Volume all refer to the amount of lashes to be applied and the desired density. Classic is a more natural look with one size of extension applied to each lash. Hybrid is a mix of a couple different sizes applied to each lash and gives you a blend between the classic and volume look. Volume lashes are all about the DRAMA combining a few long extensions and applying them to an individual lash.

Your lash technician will be able to advise you on the best shape and size to suit your natural lashes and the look your trying to achieve.

The application of lash extensions is actually quite relaxing, you lay down and have a Pro apply your new bombshell look in a typical time frame of 1-2 hours (think nap time with relaxing music playing).

How Do I Care For My Lashes

It is very important to care for your lashes by washing them with a gentle oil free cleanser and brushing them with a spoolie (aka: large mascara wand) which will be provided to you by your technician.

It is recommended by most lash technicians to wait 24 hours after application before getting your lashes wet to make sure the adhesive has completely dried.

Proper maintenance is very important because improper care can lead to breakage or loss or your natural lashes.

You can wear makeup while rocking your extensions- just steer clear from waterproof mascara or any oil based liner as these can cause the adhesive to break down.  Just be sure to always cleanse and brush your lashes before you snooze.

Maintaining Your Lashes

Regular fills are recommended every 2.5-3 weeks to keep your set looking full and fresh.  Your lashes have a natural shedding cycle which will result in the loss of some extensions so upkeep is crucial if you plan to keep your lashes looking luscious.

Removing Your Lashes

There are different reasons people opt for lash extensions- vacations, special occasions, to simplify their routine or just simply because they love the look.  While the reasons and length of time you want your extensions may differ one thing remains the same: The best way to remove your lashes is by your lash technician!

Your lash technician has the proper tools including the proper product to safely break down the adhesive and keep your own lashes in tip top shape with minimal breakage or damage.

So now that your well versed in Lash 101 go ahead and hit the search bar for a Lash Artist near you!! Or better yet, become a Certified Lash Technician!

Becoming a Lash Technician

Whether you take it on as a full time career or as your ‘on-the-side’ gig, this skill will pay for itself many times over. Learn more about becoming a Certified Lash Technician.

FAQs for Employer-Mentors; Beautiful Futures

FAQs for Employers interested in participating in ‘Beautiful Futures’

Do I get to keep my participant after the Work Experience is over?

Participants are expected to complete a minimum of 35 hours of work per week. Once participants begin their work experience with you, they become your employees, however, ESG will provide support as needed for the first 12 weeks. Support may include ways of working through attendance/punctuality issues, communication, teamwork, client care, etc. However, keep in mind that participants will have received 8 weeks of employability workshops prior to their placement with you, so these issues should not be expected.

How can my participant help me around my facility?

Well, besides industry certification in the technical focus, your participant has also been trained in Reception and Spa Assistant duties to free you from administrative duties while you develop your ideas.

What if my participant misses hours of work?

Like all other employees, missed shifts/hours are not paid to the participant. Though this is not expected, should this happen ESG can only help resolve issues if we are made aware of issues in a timely manner.

How does the Wage Subsidy work?

The wage subsidy is an incentive for employers to hire and train a participant to work for them. The new employee’s wages are partially subsidized by the program for 12 weeks, as long as the employee is working 35 or more hours per week. If eligible, the wage subsidy available is $6 per hour throughout the 12 weeks. The goal for both the employer and the participant is long-term employment. Wage subsidy provides wage relief during the initial period where you train your new staff to become functional in your facility.

Are all employers eligible for the Wage Subsidy?

To be eligible for the wage subsidy, you must:
  • Be a registered business with a legal business name and business number
  • Have been in business for at least one year
  • Offer a full-time position with a minimum on 35 hours per week
  • Offer the likelihood of long-term employment
  • Pay reasonable, competitive wages
You are not eligible for a wage subsidy IF participants fill a position that:
  • Was left vacant due to an industrial dispute in your workplace
  • Was left vacant due to a lay-off waiting to be recalled
  • Was terminated to instead employ a participant

Who pays the participant?

  • You will issue regular paycheques on paydays; ESG will reimburse the negotiated amount on a monthly basis
  • You will be required to submit monthly reports to ESG regarding the employee’s hours and wages.
  • Once a participant starts their work experience with you, they officially become your employee. Therefore, please ensure that your business insurance covers all employee-related liability.
  • You are responsible to deduct Canada Pension Plan, Employment Insurance and Income Tax will from participant wages and remit to the Canada Revenue Agency, just like your other employees.

Hire a Student | MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

Thanks to all of our Beautiful Futures mentors who guide and shape the beauty careers of Canadian youth!

Mentor a Student, Make a Difference

ESG is looking for employers to participate in our ‘Beautiful Futures’ program by providing a 12-week work experience mentorship in an entry-level position to a participant. Beautiful Futures is funded by the Government of Canada. This program trains participants in technical and employment skills, and provides work experience opportunities to youth aged 15-30 years old that are keen on joining Alberta’s beauty industry.

Why participate as an Employer?

  • A substantial wage subsidy is available for employers throughout the 12-week work experience. Employers are encouraged to continue working with youth after project completion should they wish to do so.
  • Your participant will be certified and apt to provide services in the focus skill.
  • Prior to their paid work experience with you, your participant will have spent eight (8) weeks with ESG acquiring employment skills such as Time Management, Conflict Management, Teamwork, Customer Service, etc.
  • In the same way issues can arise with any other staff members, ESG can help you integrate your participant to your team using a solution-focused approach.

PURPOSE OF WORK EXPERIENCE

Work experience is a main component of the participants’ professional development.

1. To provide a service-oriented and educational experience where participants have the chance to apply skills learned at ESG.

2. To provide opportunities for participants to develop customer service skills.

3. To help participants advance their awareness of Alberta’s Beauty Industry.

4. To provide a practical experience where participants’ employment skills and personal suitability to the industry can be demonstrated and evaluated.

5. To provide learning opportunities including possible on-the-job training.

THE ROLE OF THE EMPLOYER

The role of the employer/supervisor includes the following responsibilities:

1. Provide an orientation to the workplace, and ongoing information as needed.

2. Select appropriate tasks or projects for professional development purposes.

3. Provide other learning experiences, including staff meetings, where the participant will integrate with the rest of your team and feel a sense of belonging to their new team.

4. Provide regular supervision, including ongoing feedback about the participant’s performance.

5. Act as a professional mentor.
